MPHA 2010 Coalition Involvement and Partners American Public Health Association www.apha.org MPHA is an affiliate of the American Public Health Association (APHA). MPHA continues to support APHA’s 2009 Agenda for Health Reform and Get Ready campaign, an emergency preparedness intiative (www.getreadyforflu.org). Coalition for Responsible Sex Ed www.coalitionforsexed.org The Coalition for Responsible Sex Ed is a coalition of educational, religious, health, social service, and advocacy organizations, as well as concerned individuals that promotes lifelong healthy sexuality by advocating for policies on responsible sexuality education and access to confidential health care services. MPHA continues to support efforts to expand the availability of responsible, comprehensive sexuality education and maintain Minnesota’s Minors’ Consent law. GAMC Alliance In 2010, MPHA joined the General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) Alliance. MPHA supports the principles of the Alliance and efforts to ensure all Minnesotans have accessible, affordable, and effective health care services. Healthy Legacy www.healthylegacy.org Healthy Legacy promotes healthy lives by supporting the production and use of everyday products without toxic chemicals. They advocate for consumer education, business leadership, and protective policies to advance safe alternatives in Minnesota. MPHA is a supporter of Healthy Legacy and has endorsed the principles of the organization. In past years, MPHA has passed resolutions and actively supported specific legislation to reduce toxic chemicals in consumer products. Minnesota Cancer Alliance http://www.cancerplanmn.org/ The Minnesota Cancer Alliance is a coalition of health organizations, community groups and volunteers that evolved from collaborative efforts to create Cancer Plan Minnesota. Founded in 2005, the Alliance was formed to support and implement the plan and now includes approximately 90 members. MPHA is a member of the coalition and has supported efforts to increase colorectal screening. Minnesota Healthy Communities In 2008, MPHA began partnering with ISAIAH and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to create and support the Minnesota Healthy Communities Act (MHCA). This legislation was designed to sustain and expand the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) and offer communities a tool (Health Impact Assessments or HIAs) to gather information that can inform and guide policy decisions. Minnesotans for Healthy Kids Coalition http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3061943 Established in 2007 by the American Heart Association, the Minnesotans for Healthy Kids Coalition is committed to reducing childhood overweight/obesity prevalence through prevention using legislative advocacy and policy change. MPHA continues to support legislation to create statewide physical education standards in schools and efforts to maintain Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP funding). |
