MPHA Policy Forum:

The Teenage Experience--What’s healthy about it?

Friday, November 9th, 2012

Panelists and forum participants will explore some of the social pressures that today’s teens face. Some discussion topics may include: ways to promote a positive mental attitude, engaging and connecting with teens, encouraging positive self-esteem and healthy body image values, developing and maintaining healthy family relationships, and preparing teens to become independent health care decision makers.

The forum will be held at the Minnesota Department of Health, Snelling Office Park, located at 1645 Energy Park Drive in Saint Paul.

Dave Golden, MPHA President, will moderate the forum.
 Panelists include:
 Gloria Ferguson
from Health Start School-Based Clinics,
Mary Sue Hansen
from Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative,
and Megan Schnobrich

with Boynton Health Service, University of Minnesota.

Some questions the panelists will discuss:
· There is no shortage of risk in our world for teens to encounter. How have the risks been changing over time?
· What are some significant gender differences for how teens are able to navigate the adolescent years?
· How can communities and institutions support asset or strength building for teens?
· How can communities and institutions support parents who are raising teens?
· What strategies, theories, or models are successful in your work with teens?

Please plan on joining MPHA colleagues and friends!

Breakfast and registration begin at 7:00am. Each forum begins promptly at 7:30am and concludes at 9:00am.

The suggested cost of the forum is $8 for MPHA
members, $15 for non-members and $5 for students.
