    Public health and community leaders will explore topics in the health and  development of our children ages 0‐4.


    Please join Minnesota’s public health community in  these thought‐provoking breakfast conversations:

    The last forum will explore safety and well‐being concerns. What progress have we made in preventing and protecting young children from physical and mental abuse, in limiting exposure to guns in the home, and in addressing concerns about exposure to prescription drugs?

    4) St.. Cloud (CentraCare Health Plaza)

    5) Twin Cities (Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton)

     

    Who:  MPHA members, colleagues, friends, families all welcome!

    Why:  MPHA is pleased to include the Minnesota Stroke Association’s “Strides for Stroke Walk" as part of our series of social volunteering events. Stroke is the #1 cause of morbidity in the United States, and the majority of survivors are left with significant disabilities. To raise awareness of this public health issue, MPHA is organizing regional teams across the state to participate in this walk at the location nearest you. We are excited to participate in this public health event at a statewide level, simultaneously.

    1) We need 5 of you to volunteer as regional captains! (Locations listed above.)

    The University of Minnesota Summer Public Health Institute offers courses for everyone practicing or studying public health and its related fields. The Institute provides a space where innovation happens, allowing faculty and experts to create short courses that respond to current advances in their field. Most courses span one week and provide participants with applied research and practice that can be used right away.

    All courses are approved for CPH recertification credits by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.

    More than 37 courses are offered in the following topics:

    • the impact of globalization
    • environmental health sciences
    • food safety and protection
    • emerging infectious diseases
    • culturally responsive public health practices
    • health leadership and management
    • preparedness
    • woman and child health and nutrition
    • research methods

    Learn from local, national and international faculty and leading experts.

    Register for academic graduate credit or for non-credit continuing education hours. Registration opens April 12 for University of Minnesota admitted students, April 19 for non-admitted students.     Conference Overview

    The 2016 Minnesota Public Health Association (MPHA) conference will highlight progress being made across sectors to achieve health equity. The breakout session themes include:

    implementation of local, state, and national strategies addressing health equity, cross sector partnership and community engagement, and global health.


    The 2016 Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance Statewide Conference will be held in conjunction with MPHA’s Annual Conference on day two of the conference! Alliance and MPHA conference registrants will participate in a joint opening plenary and breakout sessions on the morning of May 26. The Alliance conference will continue into the afternoon with a luncheon, plenary program, and breakouts. 

    MPHA conference registrants have the opportunity to attend the afternoon programming of the CHW Alliance Conference for an additional registration fee. 

     

    Conference Objectives

    This conference will provide an opportunity to:

    • Describe current initiatives in Minnesota that help achieve the Triple Aim of Health Equity.
    • Identify strategies for strengthening community capacity to create their own healthy future.
    • Cite examples of cross-sector partnerships and policies that impact health.
    • Understand key public health legislative policies impacting health equity.

    Continuing Education Credits

    Application for CHES (entry-level)/MCHES (advanced-level) Category I continuing education contract hours (CECH) is being made to the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing Inc. (NCHEC). Application to the National Board of Public Health Examiners is also being made for Certified in Public Health (CPH) credits. Eight contact hours are available for nurses.

    Welcome to the Registration Page for the MN CHW Alliance one-day conference! Register here for our one-day statewide meeting. Online and mail-in options are available. To attend, you need to register.


    Conference Overview

    Please join us for a day of learning and networking with colleagues from across the state who are committed to equitable and optimal health outcomes for all communities.


    This year the Minnesota CHW Alliance and MPHA are pleased to organize back-to-back conferences with the common theme “Health Equity: Many Voices, Shared Vision.” Registrants from both conferences will participate in a joint opening plenary and breakout sessions on the morning of May 26.


    Our full-day conference will continue into the afternoon with a networking luncheon, leadership recognition and plenary panel presentation, and discussion breakouts. We will close with a plenary forum.


    Please note that registrants for MPHA’s May 25-May 26 Annual Conference have the opportunity to attend the afternoon program of the Alliance Conference for an additional registration fee as noted to the left.

    • Identify new developments, emerging lessons, best practices and helpful resources to improve access, outcomes and sustainability
