On the Edge: Evidence Behind Current Public Health Controversies

The 2009 policy forum series will explore cutting edge and controversial public health topics including unhealthy advertising and its influence on children and youth, population-based health screens, health care for undocumented persons and electronic lifestyles.

Our opening forum topic will be the impact of advertising on the health and behaviors of children and youth. From television and radio to sports and recreational venues our children are being exposed to messages designed to influence their health and buying preferences.  Dean John Finnegan, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota will moderate our forum. The panelists will be Julie Ralston Aoki from the Public Health Law Center at William Mitchell College of Law, Katie Engman from the Ramsey Tobacco Coalition &
North Suburban Tobacco Compliance Project, and Lisa Ray from Parents for Ethical Marketing.

Unhealthy Influences: The Impact of Advertising on the Health of Children

Seating is limited and registration is recommended. Please register at www.MPHA.net.  A breakfast of locally produced and organic foods will begin at 7:00am. The cost is $8 for MPHA members, $15 for non-members and $5 for students. Students, please choose the option "please bill me later" when promted to do so in the registration system. (You will be reimbursed $3 if you register for the $8 member fee.)

Parking is available on the upper level of the attached ramp for an hourly fee. On-street parking is also available—please have quarters for the parking meter.
