Dear MPHA Members and Friends,

Please join us for the Annual Business Meeting and MPHA Awards Ceremony. This meeting is conducted separately from the annual conference. We will highlight the organization's 2025-2026 accomplishments, meet the Governing Council including newly elected officers, and look ahead at what's coming up in the next year.

Then we will celebrate the 2026 MPHA Award winners and thank their nominators. A recording will be made available for those unable to attend the live event.

We look forward to connecting with you and thank you for your continued support of our 119-year-old organization!

Food for Thought: Addressing Occupational Violence in Grocery Stores in the Saint Paul Metropolitan Area

Sunniva will present on the research she did with UFCW Local 1189 on metro area grocery store workers' experiences with occupational violence. Sunniva and her co-intern, Victoria Valentina, completed this research as a part of the Summer 2024 cohort of the Occupational Health Internship Program, which is designed to link the skills and interests of students with the needs of workers employed in an under-served or high-hazard job.

Presenter Bio

Sunniva Berg graduated from Occidental College in 2024 with a degree in Urban and Environmental Policy. She has served MPHA as the Intern for the Health Equity Committee and the Policy & Advocacy Committee for the past year and a half. She will start her Masters this fall and plans to pursue a career in occupational and environmental health research.

MPHA Health Equity Committee also include dedicated time following the presentation for meaningful discussion, connection and networking, participant updates, and reports on committee and MPHA activities.

Meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Currently all meetings are virtual. Meetings are open to MPHA members and non-members who want to learn more and take action on advancing health equity in Minnesota.

Join Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) for a national webinar. As many states conclude their 2026 legislative sessions, we are taking a closer look at how communities are defining progress and securing vital public health victories despite increasing challenges.

TFAH is dedicated to supporting public health community partners through our core reports, convenings, and the Promoting Health and Cost Control in States (PHACCS) initiative. Through PHACCS, we identify how states are actively pursuing health-promoting policies during a time of federal policy flux. As jurisdictions navigate growing budgetary shortfalls and adapt to new directives, national partners are increasingly looking to the local level for inspiration on how to leverage unique administrative decisions and effective coalition-building to achieve lasting public health successes.

Join us November 17-19 at the Park Event Center near St. Cloud, MN, for the third annual Minnesota Partners in Public Health Conference.

Fifty years ago, in April 1976, Minnesota laid the foundation for its modern public health system with the Community Health Services Act—now known as the Local Public Health Act.

This year, local, Tribal, and state public health partners will come together around this milestone. We'll honor the past, and we'll reflect on how we're shaping the present and inspiring the future.
