The MPHA Policy & Advocacy (P&A) Committee is open to all members interested in deepening their understanding of public health policy and advocacy. Participation is a great way to learn, grow your skills, and contribute to shaping MPHA’s voice in the policy arena.

Grounded in MPHA’s 2025–2028 Public Policy Platform and Strategic Plan, the committee serves as a hub for collaborative, evidence-informed policy engagement. It promotes fairness, access, and the removal of all barriers that affect health, while connecting members to real-time advocacy efforts across Minnesota and through APHA across the nation.

Key committee activities include:

  • Gathering input from members on current policy issues to create MPHA’s Public Policy Platform (PPP).
  • Developing and recommending MPHA’s annual policy agenda Aligned with PPP and MPHA Strategic Plan.
  • Creating advocacy materials and playbooks for members for policymaker engagement.
  • Collaborating with external partners and peer organizations to advance shared priorities.
  • Reviewing and advising on MPHA and APHA on policy topics.

The committee is a space to build advocacy skills, share diverse perspectives, and stay informed about state and federal policy developments. Members play a vital role in policy analysis and in crafting recommendations that reflect MPHA’s values and the priorities of its membership.

While it does not set policy independently, the committee advises the Governing Council on key issues through well-informed recommendations. Members and partners may request time on the agenda to present policy topics—priority is given to those aligned with MPHA’s platform, including workforce development, community voice, and system-level change.
