Keynotes
Keshia Pollack
Keshia Pollack, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), where one of her areas of interest is optimizing the application of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) for policymaking. Drawing on her experiences as a legislative aide for a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, Dr. Pollack led an HIA of proposed legislation during the 2011 session and continues to explore how best to integrate HIA into the legislative process. Dr. Pollack completed an analysis of the impacts of completed HIAs in the United States, helped develop a model curriculum for teaching HIA, and recently served as the Interim Director of the Health Impact Project, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts.
Kate Hess Pace
Kate Hess Pace, M.P.A., is a community organizer for ISAIAH, a community-based organization that mobilizes people of faith to work on racial and economic justice issues. She served as the lead organizer for the Healthy Corridor for All Coalitions Health Impact Assessment, a joint effort of the ISAIAH, Take Action Minnesota, and Policy Link. She is currently leading a project across the Midwest aligning public health professionals with community organizers to work on health disparities issues.
Edward Ehlinger
Edward Ehlinger, M.D., M.S.P.H., is the Commissioner of Health for the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Minnesota Governor, Mark Dayton, appointed Dr. Ehlinger to serve as Commissioner of Health in January 2011. Dr. Ehlinger is responsible for directing the work of MDH, the state's lead public health agency, responsible for protecting, maintaining and improving the health of all Minnesotans. Dr. Ehlinger has been a champion of health in all policy approaches in Minnesota.
