UMN Summer Lecture Series: Joel Gittelsohn: Improving Food Environment in Urban/Rural areas

  • July 26, 2012
  • 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  • Carlson School of Management Honeywell Auditorium (L-110) - 321 19th Avenue S Minneapolis, MN 55455
Joel Gittelsohn, PhD, has been working for over a decade developing and testing intervention strategies to improve the food environment in low income ethnic minority populations.  His programs have focused on retail food stores (large and small), prepared food sources and have linked in schools, worksites, churches and other community institutions.  Based on formative research and community engagement processes, these programs have shown some success, but have also experienced challenges.

Dr. Gittelsohn will share these experiences during the seminar, and will comment on ongoing efforts to sustain and expand these programs by working with local policymakers.

This lecture was made possible with funding from the University of Minnesota Obesity Prevention Center and the Leadership, Education, and Training Program in Maternal & Child Nutrition at the University of Minnesota.
