State Biomonitoring Summit 2013

  • June 27, 2013
  • 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Dakota Lodge, St. Paul

Monitoring chemicals in people - biomonitoring - has become an important tool in public health practice. This Minnesota Department of Health summit will bring together leaders in state biomonitoring and Minnesota stakeholders to:

  • Share accomplishments from Minnesota’s biomonitoring program
  • Learn about key states’ biomonitoring programs, with a particular focus on how results are being used for public health action; and
  • Envision the future of biomonitoring in public health improvement in Minnesota.

A.M. PROGRAM
Speakers from Minnesota will be joined by colleagues from California, Washington, and Wisconsin to describe their groundbreaking state biomonitoring work. Looking at each state’s unique focus, scope, funding, and results will allow participants to consider a wide range of possibilities for Minnesota’s own future.

P.M. PROGRAM
Environmental and public health leaders and stakeholders will outline their views on the future needs and opportunities for biomonitoring in Minnesota. Participants will provide advice to Minnesota’s biomonitoring program about priorities for the future and opportunities to sustain this work.

Who should come
Anyone interested in improving public health in Minnesota is invited to attend this summit to explore the way biomonitoring works along with other public health tools, such as disease prevention and environmental public health tracking. People interested in the relationship between chemicals in the environment and human health will find this summit relevant and informative, as it brings together for the first time experts in state biomonitoring programs (including Minnesota’s), policy makers, environmental program representatives, and many others.  Bring your ideas and help shape the future of biomonitoring in Minnesota!
